Think on These Things

Phil. 4:8 “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

I want to do something a little difficult for our feeble, human minds. Something that is hard for our prideful, human hearts. I wan to give us a challenge. Whoever reads this has a challenge for today! That assignment is to make sure that no matter what happens, each reader only says things that are encouraging. Everything we read in the new testament concerning the spiritual assembly, and our job as brothers and sisters, has 2 purposes: 1) To praise God. 2) To teach and encourage one another in love.

Just for today, if you have anything harshly critical to say, either don’t say it, or say it in a way that will build up instead of tear down. Just for today, if you hear someone speaking in a negative way, ask them politely to either let it go, or say it in a way that encourages. Take the word “think” in Phil. 4:8 and join it with “say.” Just for today, let us make an extra effort to build one another up. Who knows, this might be something that works! Occasionally, Paul knew what he was talking about! -Jesse
